The mission of the Society of Broadcast Engineers is rooted in education. The SBE Education Committee works to create educational opportunities for broadcast engineers that provide practical knowledge, further their personal and professional development and increase their value to employers.

SBE chapters are an excellent and regular source for education. Most chapters meet monthly and feature presentations about broadcast technology, regulations or other topics related to the field.

Nationally, SBE sponsors educational seminars called Ennes Workshops to help keep broadcast engineers up-to-date on emerging technologies and issues facing the broadcast industry. Ennes Workshops typically cover a range of topics in one day (app. 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.) and have part of the day devoted to separate seminar tracks for radio and TV topics.

The Ennes Workshops were created in 1991 through the Ennes Educational Foundation Trust in an effort to bring affordable education to members locally.

SBE University consists of online, self-study courses geared specifically to broadcast

engineers.  As a student, you pick the date, time and location to learn.  Now that’s convenience!  The cost for these courses varies from $59 to $99. Once you register for the course, you immediately receive a link to the course where you can access it again and again as your schedule permits.

Each course in SBE University looks like an electronic book in that it is broken out into chapters, including an introduction and summary.  In addition, there are 8-14 chapters that make up the ‘meat’ of the course.  At the end of most chapters are quizzes, as well as a final exam at the end, all to help you confirm your knowledge of the material.

SBE University is just one more way for broadcast engineers to get the education they need to succeed. Click here for the current list of courses.

The SBE Leadership Development Course is an intense, three-day course designed to train broadcast engineers who have, or aspire to have, management responsibilities. The next course is scheduled August 3-5, 2010.
