The Society of Broadcast Engineers has among its purposes, the "creation of working alliances and meeting of minds with all elements of the broadcast and communication industry, including the FCC...". SBE regularly files comments reflecting the Society's views to the U.S. Federal Communications Commission on issues of importance to our members.
The two primary goals for SBE FCC filings are protection of Broadcast
Auxiliary Service (BAS) spectrum and the Emergency Alert System (EAS). Other issues may trigger
national-level SBE filings, at the discretion of SBE Board of Directors
or officers, or the Society's General Counsel. FCC filings are also
sometimes triggered by member queries.
The Society has established Filing Procedures and Guidelines for FCC Liaison Committee Submissions. This revised document was approved by the SBE Board of Directors on October 10, 2007.
