Duties & Responsibilities:

* Conducts daily checking of traffic logs and automation playlists for issues or errors.
* Visits TV and Radio transmission sites, including AM, TV/FM at Mt. Bigelow and Tumamoc Hill, and various translator sites to verify proper functioning and for the performance of regular preventative maintenance.
* Take readings at minimum bi-monthly for all transmitters. Log into the site's paper log and upload reading data to a shared drive for reference when not on site.
* Assist with other broadcast-related equipment installation and maintenance in Tucson's main studio facility when needed.
* Participate in staff meetings and conference calls with the department and assist the Chief Engineer when needed.
* Respond to help desk inquiries with the requested information, investigating or responding.
* Follow up with the help desk with the resolution for their reference and record keeping.
* Inspect towers for damage, corrosion, or excessive vegetation and clear as needed.
* Keep EAS logs and FCC compliance information.
* Test the incandescent tower lighting system to verify all lights are lit visually. Schedule re-lamp and issue NOTAM if a beacon is observed to be non-functioning.
* Work with staff for building issues, repairs and upgrades.
* Fill out quarterly tower Inspection sheet and generator log on site.
* Fill out quarterly reports and keep logs for all sites.
* Exercise generator regularly.
* Inspect fuel storage tanks if the site has them.
* Provides 24X7 technical recovery support services as needed.

Physical Requirements:

Our Director of Engineering is both the engineering manager and hands on repair and problem solving person for a multi-station public media organization in Alaska. This person is the primary source for RF engineering solutions as well as a key member of the management team.

Position Responsibilities Include:

· Keeps technical facilities operational and maintained to standard engineering practice and in compliance with all applicable FCC rules and regulations.
· Remote troubleshooting to repair and reestablish signal service, often in coordination with non-technical staff via phone and IT for computer, broadcast, and production equipment.
· Maintains origination and transmission equipment including transmitters and translators, STLs, control room and studio equipment and computers.
· Provides routine onsite technical support.
· Oversight of regional technical budget.
· Maintain an engineering knowledgebase pertaining to troubleshooting and modification of station systems.
· Monitor changing technical needs of broadcasting and digital media to pursue regional standardization and meet local needs.
· Participates in supporting the efforts of the technical team.

* Expertise and background in RF transmission and technology.
* Cable fabrication and termination experience.
* Candidate must be a self-starter and highly organized.
* Strong project execution and coordination skills.
* Personal characteristics - Good interpersonal skills, and ability to communicate well with tenants and vendors.
* Ability to train fellow engineers in new systems, technologies, procedures, and techniques.
* Must be able to work weekends, holidays, overtime, or varying shifts when necessary to meet station needs, sometimes with little notice.

Education and Experience:

* 2-5 years of experience in broadcast engineering or technical operations.
* Knowledge and experience working with control room automation, cameras, and recording devices, non-linear editing systems, transcoding products, routers, encoders, and video servers.
* Knowledge of and understanding of FCC rules and regulations.
* Experience in IT, including an understanding of networking, software, and operating systems.
* Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications, Video Conferencing Software, and Computer Aided Drafting Software.
* Experience with GatesAir ULXTE transmitters is a plus.
