One of the most recent advances in the HD Radio system is the ability to transmit images that correspond with the audio programming on any FM HD radio channel. This is most commonly being used to deploy Artist Experience (album art) on stations that play music formats. Many new receivers are coming to market that support this feature. In particular, automotive manufacturers are starting to include this feature in many of their radio designs.
This presentation will dissect this topic in three parts, and is intended to be both an overview (high level) discussion for managers and technical discussion (low level) for those who will implement the technology, or for those who just want to learn more about how it works. There will be room for questions and answers in between each part.
The first section will discuss an overview of the technology and receivers that already supporting this technology to give background on what support is out there, and what is on the horizon. The second section of this presentation will dive into the details of Artist Experience and discuss the technical concepts required to deploy this successfully. The third section of this presentation will look at and discuss best practices for implementation. Several options are available to broadcasters, from designing their own custom system, or using several available commercial products on the market. From there, deployment strategies and suggestions for scaling this implementation across all of your stations will be discussed.
Because of the increasing receiver base for album art, and the ability for terrestrial radio to stay relevant and competitive with other mediums, it is strongly encouraged that all stations implement this feature on their stations.
